What are your favorite nutrient-rich foods or supplement brands?
Bless you sir.
Fortified is a hint that it's not good quality food. Eat vitamins WTF is this. Please look at this video don't fall for this crap, https://youtu.be/uEUPAPVzNkY
I don’t see why I should go vegan and take supplements, when I can just eat meat though. There’s no reason to go vegan other than “Animals dying is sad” I care more about my own health. My needs come first
flaxseeds are crap research clearly indicates that the conversion of ALA to EPA and DHA is extremely limited. Less than 5% of ALA gets converted to EPA, and less than 0.5% (one-half of one percent) of ALA is converted to DHA A common misconception, especially amongst vegetarians and vegans, is that our need for EPA and DHA can be met by consuming flax oil and other plant sources of ALA. But the conversion numbers above clearly indicate that this isn’t the case no wonder so many vegans run in to omega 3 deficiencies
I take 1 vitamin D3 and an 1 omega 3 (half the dose that is 2) every day, a 1,500 mcg chewable B12 one a week, and a Deva vegan multivitamin twice a week (I sub for the D3 since it includes D) to fill in any gaps. Other than that, I eat chickpeas and lentils everyday with breakfast, nuts everyday as a snack (plus avocado with breakfast), rice and beans a few times a week, and a spring mix salad with my meal most days. Drink only water, and plenty of fruits (mandarins, apples, banana, blueberries). I should be covered for most things. I don’t even know if I need to take the multivitamin, it’s just to make sure (for iodine, vitamin K, zinc). Calcium is perhaps the one thing that falls thru the cracks, since my multivitamin doesn’t have much of it, tho I should know with a lab.
Perhaps the title may best read do you need supplements on a vegan diet
I just watch a video from a guy who say that in fact we should avoid plant milk that is fortified, because its synthetic vitamins and its not good for us and its better to buy plant milk that just have 2 or 3 ingrédients, like water the plant and salt! I never heard this before so i m curious to know what other or you Mic think about this..!?
I'm always eating too much vitamin A from fruits and vegetables that are red, orange and yellow! How can anyone possible have it too low?!
Supplements mentioned:
Vitamin B12
Vitamin D
Calcium
Iron
Choline (too much is bad)
Omega-3 fatty acids (ALA)
Vitamin A
Iodine
Zinc
Vitamin K
Selenium
👍
Mic, Where can I purchase Vit. D Mushrooms? They are not in Whole Foods or The Fresh Market.
So if you need to take supplements on your diet, it it really superior? Meat and blood has every nutrient in it. A piece of brocoli on it own is trash.
Love the video!
What say about folate and B6
I’m glad vegans have stopped pretending they don’t need lots of supplements to maintain their lame ass diet.
This is exactly what I was looking for– a comprehensive overview of what (if any) supplements I should be taking as a new vegan. I searched "supplements mic the vegan" because I knew he'd cover the science and studies behind them and give me a full answer. Thanks so much!
The fact you have to supplement means it's not a proper diet, go eat a steak
So do you need additional supplements or not if you are vegan?

Can someone be real with me and let me know actually how realistic it is that supplementing will do more harm then good?
"most vegans are not properly assessed for critical deficiencies and most do not supplement correctly. Whether carefully supplemented vegan diets can sustain excellent mental health is a different question altogether. I honestly don't think anyone knows the answer. Vegan diets are a relatively new phenomenon in world history. Completely removing animal foods from the diet is a risky human experiment—although, to be fair, so is eating the standard American diet . . ."
You’re blaming your nutrient deficiencies on everything but your diet? Classic liberal logic
I am not so sure what vegan supplement to buy. Im trying to get as much b12 as possible from my normal diet. Can I get enough B12 from frinking oatly milk? I have heard its rich in it but I'm rwally not that clued in, so any advice would be great.
I'm vegan and I donated blood the other day and the doctor told me I actually had really good high levels of Iron. So its such a stereotype that vegan or vegetarians have low levels
I actually eat nutritional yeast because I like the taste but originally started eating it for my health
