Every 'best vegan dish for a skeptic' is based on being spicy. Not good when you're cooking for a family with young kids who won't eat spicy food! What non-spicy dish would you cook?

    Recipe

    Ingredients

    Liquid Broth
    1/2 cup water
    1 tbsp white distilled vinegar

    1 cup Textured vegetable protein
    1/4 cup Bac'n Bits

    Vegetables

    2 tsp liquid smoke

7 oz can chipotle peppers in adobe seasoning
    28 oz can crushed tomatoes
    28 oz can peeled tomatoes

1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed

    Steps
    1. Combine liquid broth ingredients, stirring until marmite is dissolved

    5. Add garlic to dutch oven and stir to combine.
    6. Add peppers to dutch oven and stir to combine.
    7. Once peppers are slightly cooked, scoop over to side of the dutch oven.
    8. Pour meat onto cleared part of dutch oven and cook until meat has browned.
    9. Pour beer into dutch oven and use it to scrape the bottom of the dutch oven.
    10. Add seasonings to dutch oven and stir to combine.
    11. Add chipotle peppers and sauce to dutch oven.
    12. Add canned tomatoes and liquids, then stir to combine.

I don't know how some can tolerate so much heat. Just a half of one chipotle in adobo sauce in a recpie about half this size totally burned my mouth. I guess I don't have the tolerance for spice.

We recently spent some time in American Airlines lounge and they served a vegan chili made with TVP. My wife, who won't touch tofu, fake meats, etc really liked it. She said it tasted like meat to her. When I was in my 20's, I made chili with TVP a lot for a vegetarian ex. I wish I could remember the recipe I used, but I'm going to try yours.

How often do you eat meat. I feel like you would need to eat meat often so you can try to make non meat taste like meat.

I'm not vegan. But I might be soon because of you. If only the rest of them were as personable and wholesome there wouldn't be so much resistance.

I understand being angry about injustice towards non-human animals but the way you change someone's mind isn't through aggression and making them feel stupid, ie "the stick", it's through offering a favourable alternative, or "the carrot".

Great job with this chili, I'll be making it, since TVP is cheaper than properly raised beef and I'm eager to try something new.
