With no wish to disappoint Robert Shrimsley or spoil his fun (“The jubilee curse: a week of boorish republicanism”, Magazine, FT Weekend, May 28), I am reassured that far from being coarse or vulgar, any antimonarchist displays or street parties this time round were as high-minded, earnest and restrained as a vegan picnic.
So, sadly, no chance of anything resembling the Sex Pistols 1977 punk anthem — remember that line “she ain’t no human being”, to rhyme with Queen — to liven things up, or anything more entertaining than the slew of obsequious flim-flam descending on us last week.
