After multiple sold-out pop-up visits to Charlotte, Slutty Vegan owner Pinky Cole has told Charlotte Five that she will open a restaurant in Charlotte. And, it could come as soon as this year. The Atlanta-based food truck and restaurant has become hugely successful thanks to its over-the-top plant-based burgers and fries.
Cole set up in Camp North End on Saturday, June 11 for her fourth visit to Charlotte as a pop-up — this one in collaboration with Varo Bank— and the line was extremely long before the truck’s window opened for orders.
“So the lucky question is: ‘Is Slutty Vegan coming to Charlotte?’” Cole said to CharlotteFive. “The answer is:’Yes! Slutty Vegan is coming to Charlotte.’ Now, I can’t tell you the location, but we are coming, and it will be a beautiful surprise. Charlotte has always supported us since day one and every single time that we come, there is a line down the block.”
As for when, that is still up in the air. But, the restaurant will open a new location every month in 2022, and Charlotte could very well be included in that number.
“I am so excited because we get to scale. Slutty Vegan is about to be everywhere, and it is about to be a household name.”
Fussy Hussy, One-Night Stand and more coming to Charlotte
Slutty Vegan’s popularity can largely be credited to Cole’s ability to make vegan food fun, as well as tasty. The burgers have names like Fussy Hussy, Sloppy Toppy and One-Night Stand, and are usually made with a base of a plant-based patty, vegan cheese, Cole’s special Slut Sauce, and a host of other ingredients.
“It’s so deliciously good,” Cole said. “Whatever it is you come for, you will enjoy it. I promise you that. Our mission here is to help people reimagine food, and I think we have been successful in doing so. Especially considering the amount of people that stand in line for hours to patronize our business.”
Charlotte residents began lining up as early as 11 a.m. to try the truck’s menu, which didn’t begin serving until 3 p.m. Before 2 p.m, the line stretched from the Camp North End Boileryard water tower all the way down to Dupp & Swat.
“It’s clear that Charlotte loves to support us when we come here. I’m looking forward to being in the city of Charlotte, and I know it will support me, because you all have supported me every time I’ve come.”
