Bryan Danielson proudly wears the label of wrestling’s foremost eco-warrior, and it turns out that he even got Vince McMahon to join him on the bandwagon.
Speaking at a recent Inside The Ropes live event, Chris Jericho discussed some of the more eccentric, and slightly left-field views held by Vince McMahon. While it’s well known that McMahon doesn’t like sneezing for example, it turns out he also couldn’t understand Bryan Danielson being vegan.
The American Dragon has become famous for his vegan lifestyle, especially in recent years, as well as his compassion for and thoughts on numerous environmental issues.
During an appearance at Starrcast V, Danielson spoke to the media before his appearance as part of The Sessions with Rene Paquette. During the scrum, the AEW star recalled his conversations with McMahon about veganism to Inside The Ropes’ very own Kenny McIntosh.
When it was put to Danielson that Jericho had told the story, Danielson began by recalling Jericho telling him about Vince’s reaction to him after they wrestled on season one of NXT back in 2010.
“So its interesting, ’cause I remember Chris telling me, after I had that first NXT match with Chris that he came to the back and he’s like ‘You’ve really got something with this kid.’ And he’s [Vince McMahon impression] ‘Urgh he doesn’t even eat meat!”
Then the conversations that I’ve had with him in the last several years, he’s said that there’s something to that, for health and longevity and for that sort of thing. And I don’t think that he’s entirely a believer that you should eat entirely vegan, but I think he believes now that there are a lot of health benefits to doing it. Especially if you’re doing it purposefully on specific days or whatever.”
During his appearance at Starrcast, Danielson also revealed that he actively tried to get fired while he was working on Talking Smack as he was frustrated about not being cleared to wrestle.
