My most difficult situation is social situations. Human beings are about being connected to other human beings. That is key. And much of that connection revolves around meals: Going out to eat with friends, meals with family, Church events are all food oriented. Being from Northern Wisconsin, they have no idea of whole food plant based. Even restaurants who try to help with "Vegetarian" that is Cream sauce with cheese. I have never encountered anyone who is against my healthy diet, but the don't think of it at all.

We were really surprised to learn that the link between obesity and heart disease is quite direct. Cardiomyocytes start burning the available excess lipids rather than glucose. It's not quite the same as putting diesel into a non-diesel car but you get the point.

I’m so sick and tired of people like this claiming to have all of the answers. The research is all over the place, studies are contradictory, yet people like to pretend they know the “Truth”. They don’t, because no one really does. Just because a few professionals believe something, doesn’t make it true.
Also – what are they asking people to do, have they thought about that at all? One woman says putting dressing on your salad is bad, well what does she want people to do exactly? Just eat a bowl of lettuce? Sure, that’s sustainable.

It drives me nuts that today, in 2022 they are coming out with all these diets that say animal fats are better for you and you should eat lots of meat with fat and butter and cream, because your body needs those animal proteins. The low carb diet is the same as the Atkins diet. Just a different name

"SEE THAT YOUR DIET IS 95-100 PERCENT PLANT-BASED
People in the blue zones eat an impressive variety of garden vegetables when they are in season, and then they pickle or dry the surplus to enjoy during the off-season. The best-of-the-best longevity foods are leafy greens such as spinach, kale, beet and turnip tops, chard, and collards. Combined with seasonal fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and beans dominate blue zones meals all year long.

Many oils derive from plants, and they are all preferable to animal-based fats. We cannot say that olive oil is the only healthy plant-based oil, but it is the one most often used in the blue zones. Evidence shows that olive oil consumption increases good cholesterol and lowers bad cholesterol. In Ikaria, we found that for middle-aged people, about six tablespoons of olive oil daily seemed to cut the risk of dying in half.

People in four of the five blue zones consume meat, but they do so sparingly, using it as a celebratory food, a small side, or a way to flavor dishes.

Research suggests that 30-year-old vegetarian Adventists will likely outlive their meat-eating counterparts by as many as eight years.

At the same time, increasing the amount of plant-based foods in your meals has many salutary effects. Beans, greens, yams and sweet potatoes, fruits, nuts, and seeds should all be favored. Whole grains are OK too. Try a variety of fruits and vegetables; know which ones you like, and keep your kitchen stocked with them." -Blue Zone web site

Someone in the video said that none of the Blue Zones eat a vegan diet, but one of them, the Seventh Day Adventists of Loma Linda California, has a significant number of vegetarians and vegans. Their religion encourages them to not eat meat. Of all the Blue Zone populations, the SDA's have the longest lifespan. In fact, they have the longest lifespan of any population known to science! Among SDA's the vegans are the healthiest, and the only dietary group among them with an average BMI in the recommended range was the vegan group. The vegans among them were least likely to have ischemic heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and multiple types of cancer.

Link to the peer reviewed Adventist studies (published in the journal "Science") at my channel under "About."

As a physician I can attest that a vegan diet is healing and thriving for so many people— sick or not sick

Thank you for a brilliant movie. Awareness is key. This should be taught in medical school. I think I only received about 3 weeks of nutrition education during basic sciences training. Tragic

Ok, I was fine until they went on about High Fat. Borderline clueless about the amino acid breakdown of consumed fat and perpetuating its misinformed harm. They get so close with some of it and then miss the mark, stating that sugars in fruits is fine. The liver doesn't know the difference. Not a single Endocrinologist, no researchers, all talking heads still caught up in the same bias that has affected people for nearly 70 years. They're close, but it's clear that more work needs to be done to educate the masses. Then the dude going on about Coconut oil, are you kiddinig me? The documentary is trash better off going to a university lecture hosted by Robert Lustig. Not even going to sit through and watch the rest.

Great movie. I can't believe this came out in 2018 and I'm just now seeing it. I'm in the process of transitioning to a fully whole foods plant based diet. One of my motivators is the stay off meds. In the first seven weeks my cholesterol dropped 62 points! My migraines have also significantly decreased along with my allergies, and my joints are less stiff and achey. That is a great start and I'm looking forward to even more benefits.

These doctors come so close to the truth but are unable to get out of their own way. They say eat real food which is great. Real food found in nature does not have carbs and fat in the same wrapper.

It is not the meat in the hamburger that is the problem. The bun and sugary condiments with the fats is the time bomb we are seeing.

Find videos by Ben Bikman about diet. He is a super nice researcher and professor of pathophysiology. Great info there.

This was fascinating and informative and it confirmed a lot of things I have been pondering. I'm a 42 year old woman and most of my life I've been around 20LB overweight. The only time I was thinner was when I starved myself calorie counting and it took almost 20 years to lose 20LB. But I've always been a keen exerciser with a strong interest in nutrition. While my diet was not perfect, it was far better than the standard American diet. Ever since I temporarily lost weight during 2015-2017, I have been trying very hard to get back to those results again by calorie counting. But I would continually fall off the wagon because it was too difficult and unsustainable. One huge challenge I always had was trying to get all the macros (especially protein) that I was supposed to eat without going over my calorie count -it always felt like I was trying to pay $900 of bills with $650 dollars.

Fast forward to now – I have recently been practicing intermittent fasting and am sticking to a 16/8 eating window and weight lifting five days a week. I'm focusing a lot more on eating whole foods. And I'm losing bodyfat. I don't feel stressed out or deprived. It's not fun being hungry at times but it's not bad. This is something I can do long-term: I'm thriving and I'm seeing results without having to be miserably obsessed with calorie counting.

I really appreciate the segment where they talk about how protein-obsessed we are – it's the number-one nutrition thing any fitness coach will preach. I always felt I could never get enough protein in and I really prefer living a semi-vegetarian lifestyle. It was so good to get validation that no I should not actually be trying to choke down so much fish and chicken all the time.

And boy do I miss McDonald's salads! They were amazing.

This is ridiculous….let's consider what our brains are made of….ya entirely of fat. Wonder what had happened to society and their intelligence once the low fat bs started being sold to society……ya meat, fish, and veggies, and whole grains period. Minimal processing. End of story. So fucking easy. Stop being a mindless consumer and use common sense

This film missed the point: Carbs don't make you unhealthy, but carbs do raise & keep insulin levels high. By keeping my insulin levels as low as I can (few if any insulin spikes), migraines gone, 80 lbs gone, sleep apnea gone, brain fog gone, able to walk w/o joint pain, and more. I'll continue to keep my insulin levels low, which means I eat animal meats & fat, yes even saturated fats along with healthy fats (but no seed oils), my resting heart rate is extremely low, and I continue to be told I look 10 years longer.

This is what worked for me. I had some medical issues; diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver and stage one kidney issues so I decided to go Whole Foods plant based. Very little meat and no dairy. I started feeling better and I lost a lot of weight. They retook the tests and I reversed all of my problems. I love the way I feel eating this way. Got off all my meds, which was amazing. Once in a while I have ice cream, chocolate and other not so healthy foods, which I enjoy. Like I said “This is what worked for me.” You have to listen to your body and see what works for you. I’ve tried different things that just didn’t work for me.

Some of these people have appeared in vegan documentaries I’ve watched in the past! I’ve tried to be vegan and it got me incredibly sick! I need protein ‘. Without protein you also age faster ! I now fast a good part of the day and let my body clean itself and then have a healthy balanced diet without cutting anything except for the processed food and sugar! I also exercise in a balanced way and not in an excessive way . I try to sleep 8 hours a day! Avoid alcohol and manage my stress!

Never felt better ! I am 48 years old , I was never this healthy not even at 20 years old!

I should add that when these people refer to studies, they always refer to epidemiological studies that are the weakest form of scientific research. Epidemiological studies are done to form hypotheses. Then after that there should be systematic controlled studies to test each hypothesis. These are the things missing in these people's arguments. To see how scientific research is done, listen to Dr. Robert Lustig from UCSF (retired now) to see how he proved that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is caused by fructose and nothing else. (These plant advocates say sugar is a health food. compare that with what Dr. Lustig has to say in this video)
