there are many nutrients lacking if not completely missing on a vegan diet. it is well documented that nutrient deficiencies can contribute to depression. ex vegans report having experienced depression without even realizing it back when they were vegan. when your baseline health is poor health, you start thinking poor health is normal.

I have two opposing forces within me: 1. The vegan diet has helped me be free from a guilty conscience, and feel more like myself. 2. And on the other hand, knowing what happens in the industry weighs on my heart always. Back when I was going vegan I watched countless hours of footage and educated myself about all areas that veganism covers (ethnics, industry standard procedures, environmental issues, eutrophication, fur / lab testing, health, …). And yet though I keep this to myself, there's always friends / family who don't even bother researching that poke fun or dismiss me. There's this ideological loneliness that comes with going vegan, very much like being painfully awake while the ones around you are asleep or choose to have blindfolds on. My net mood has definitely moved a bit towards the negative direction. That said, it's probably because ignorance was bliss. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Do you still recommend the light therapy? Which one do you use?

Ive noticed to when you feel good physically you feel good mentally when I learned that I was on heroin and I was able to deal with all my problems because I felt amazing physically. Now since ive been clean off of drugs and alcohol I want to try and go vegan to help my depression and anxiety. I thought if I feel better and healthier I can better deal with depression and anxiety without needing drugs.
The algae is interesting but are the algae not also in the water which the mercury is in? The fish are absorbing the mercury either from their food or the water or both. How much mercury is in the algae?
BTW, I am vegan also and have had lot of relief with depression and with insomnia with going plant-based. I have a lot more energy now and getting more accomplished. When you want to do things but lack the energy to do what you want to do, that alone is depressing. Solving the energy problem did loads of good for me.

I can absolutely tell that my happiness has increased with going vegan, but I could definitely improve when it comes to whole foods π I can be a bit of a junk food vegan at times, but I'm slowly moving away from processed foods π
