That's no hack. Rib steaks are trimmed. More waste on a vacuumed pack.

Idk about the HI Costco you're filming in but at AZ Costco prices are the same regardless. Go to a grocery chain and the price difference will be more significant.

I remember when they used to put whole in the bag meat in the counter. People steal them, good luck finding them.

In Chicago, any union shop is going to charge for each cut. It really does pay to get the roast and cut it yourself.

Another reason that I like to buy the rib roast is so that I can cut the size I like. The packs are usually cut to 1lb steaks I prefer my steaks be 1/2 lb each.

All I see is someone trying to find a good one out of a bunch of commodity meat selections. You are much better of finding someone who raises steers/heifers and buying the whole or half from them.

I'd still rather pay $50 bucks for 4 steaks vs $200.00+ for the whole ribeye roast. But yes, WAAAAAAAAY cheaper in the long term if you want to cut up your own steaks and then Vacuum seal the rest of them, I agree with the economics of the situation.

I will say not everyone wants to drop $200-300 on one type of meat up front, especially if feeding a family, kids don’t usually enjoy steak all that much, the smaller family pack is good especially when I’m the only one that eats them. But I was a meat cutter for 14 years, I’ve ate so much free and discounted steak, ribeyes mostly, filets, top sirloin, New York’s, that I’ve become almost grossed out by them. I might have had 1 steak this year so far, maybe two last year.

Oh my gosh, DO NOT BUY your meat from these big box stores! They are the cheapest cuts of meat out there!! My husband and I own a retail old fashioned meat market and we cut ALL our meats fresh and daily! We buy ONLY THE BEST beef! We’ve been in business too, for 28 years now and we know what we are doing! Another little secret, do NOT BUY YOUR HAMBURGER meat from a big box store either, they use red food coloring to keep the ground beef (hamburger meat) red to make it look fresh ground. That’s a fact!
