"Do people get offended when others make food from their culture differently?"
So… I am Japanese, so I grew up eating tofu along with animal products. When I was first introduced to vegan recipes, I saw a bunch of them trying to make tofu look and taste like meat, and I was like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" To me, tofu is its own ingredient that was enjoyed, so it would particularly piss me off when people think tofu exists for the sole purpose of being a meat substitute, especially when they would try it and they would say "It's just not the same." Well no wonder it isn't the same as meat, you're trying to pretend that it's something that it isn't. Enjoy tofu as tofu and meat as meat! I appreciate the innovation much more now after actually trying recipes with an open mind (been vegan for a year now and love tofu scramble), but I can definitely understand where the concern would be regarding how shifting the use of cultural foods would look to people native to that culture. It would probably look really weird to Americans if someone put maple syrup on mac and cheese, for example. Much like how an initial introduction to the concept of veganism can be jarring for most people, seeing your culture's food used in a different way can be a bit hard to swallow at first. Love your videos and usually love what you have to say, but I just felt this was worth sharing.
A point of hope: kids do grow!! I know when they are small it feels like they will be small for ever. But it is a phase: my third turned 6 this year and for a year or so now I realised that actually, I do wake up before them now and, what's best, I can sleep in while they get up on their own! Looking back, it is intense but fairly short, so do not force yourself to do things that you just cannot do with small kids: it will pass.
Loved the video! Been following Derek for years and he has helped me so much. Coming from a vegan bodybuilder who also posts about fitness and vegan protein I really appreciated this video 💪
Yeah, the Simnet guy is probably my favorite Vegan YouTuber. He seems really honest and genuine. He's fitter than I ever was or ever will be, but his "diet" is a worthy thing to emulate no matter your fitness goals, but pared down of course if you're not burning through calories like he is.
He meant a 500 or 1000 deficit, not eating AT 500 or 1000. Up to 500kcal deficit is pretty standard fare for a weight cut. Just dropping that here because I didn't see it at a quick glance in the comments.
I just watched Freelee's review of your video in Dec of your raw food day. Her review was actually very good! I'm sure you've seen it already, but she was very nice, just critiqued your diet.
He is sensitive to caffeine…
I like cilantro amla chutney… it's so freakin good …very refreshing to say the least
Tumeric is actually so freakin good for you…

Awesome
He said that he thought a 500 or 1000 calorie a day deficit IS crash dieting. He didn't misspeak….you misheard 😂

He was saying “500 calorie deficit, 1000 calorie deficit” — so reducing daily calories by that much, not eating that little!
I FEEL you on the freezing smoothie thing… it’s why I can’t drink them!
Lol yepp second season of Promised Never-ending was such a let down. Loved the first!
What is happening to me A WONDER?! Hahaha ur hilarious 😂
I think when he said 500 calorie deficit he meant 500 below BMR or what he burns rather than eating 500.
