Hi from Melbourne congratulations on your show. Christine
Dimitra, I don’t know what it is with and the dishes, really touch my heart. Yours reminds me more of my heritage and my darling Mother’s cooking 🥲thank you
You should get a ribbon for your videos… REFRESHINGLY TO THE POINT! and minus that horrible noise that masquerades as music, something most video makers add to their background. Besides all of that, your recipes are delicious!
She sounds like she has a Southern California accent… I grew up there, and there were lots of Greek people in my neighborhood… The kids of the Italians and the Greeks always had a feeling of kinship; our churches were next door to each other, we went to each other's parties and festivals, and we played together all the time. There was lots of similarities in our food and upbringing, and that's probably why we always felt closer to each other than to other ethnicities, although we all got along pretty well in general… As a kid in my old neighborhood, Dimitra would've been given a nickname that everyone could pronounce easily, such as "Didi" or "Dimi" or "Dee" or "Mimi"… I was always "Joe" or "Peppe", never "Giuseppe".
Hmmm… I was told to "never add salt to beans/lentils/chickpeas/pulses etc until they are soft, because the salt will toughen the skins"… Maybe it's just an old superstition? I've always followed that rule, and I've never had tough beans, so maybe there is something to it? Beans are cheap enough that I could do an experiment and find out for sure, but for now I'll stick with what works. (Salt at the finish, not the beginning.) Has anyone else heard of such a thing?
always delicious dishes and always come out perfectly … thank you dimitra for the step by step
👍😊
Can I use red lentils, just adding them to the rice while cooking?
Dimitra, don't you find that re-using the lentil cooking liquid causes the dish to be a bit more gassy than usual?
Necesito subtitulos en español!
Wow, so a winter version of the lentil tabbouleh… very good. How are pomegranate's used in Greek cuisine?
Looks delicious! Definitely making this!!!
I've made it with brown rice and it took me awfully lot of time.
For those wanting to use brown rice, as I did: cook the rice the typical way, just for 10 min less than normaly, before adding to this dish.
It was tasty though and I will make it again.
This dish is amazing!! My husband had three servings and he’s picky with his rice. I usually like to leave out certain garnishes like parsley or lemon just because I want to eat certain things as is but I decided to try with parsley and lemon and it takes the rice to next level of flavor.
Orthodox fasting season is now in overdrive. You should consider starting an Orthodox Lent culinary survival guide with 30-40 recipes. I could help you market it. Most of the southern churches are anglo converts and so it's all sack cloth and ashes to get through Lent cheaply and without misery 😀 I'm telling you… this is a hidden market for you. Doing this recipe this evening along with a Mediterranean take on Spinach/Turnip green Palak.
Wonderful,thank you
You have to be the best Greek show I have ever whach. I am not Greek so I have to learn everything ,but you make so easy 😊
Do another version by adding the camerilize onion
How many people does this dish serve?
I love your dishes.thanks. I love the music too. Is that Greek instrumental music?
Thank you so much Dimitra
I made it today. It was easy to make and turned out really delicious.
I made this recipe last weekend for my family with the Chicken shawarma, Tzatziki sauce, Greek salad and Hummus. It all turned out so good. I made a curry type chicken salad with the leftover chicken shawarma and it was divine. I loved this Lentil & rice pilaf recipe so much. I also want to tell you that I really enjoy your cooking shows. Thank you for sharing your recipes!💛
Soooo delicious-looking. I cannot wait to make your recipes 💜
I love all of your recipes and I am sure the Middle Eastern version of this rice will take it over the top as well please share it with us.
Hi Dimitra… this looks great! I only have white long grain rice right now. Can you tell me how to make this recipe with the white rice instead?
Love love love lentils. Will DEFINITELY be making this.
Where did you get that BEAUTIFUL Teal eight sided Dutch oven. Checked you Amazon link, but I cant find that one
I made this. It turned out really well. I added a bit of oregano to it to bump up the flavor a bit. I will definitely keep this for my repertoire.
If I am using canned lentils, should I just skip the cooking process? just add them to the rice?
I have one teaspoon of milk kefir grains.plz tell me how much milk required
Another great video!
Can u switch out the rice with quinoa? Would u cook it the same way?
Yes! Please make your version of the Middle Eastern lentil rice. I’ve made it for many years and always have had to add more flavors to it than what the very basic recipe calls for, like the carmelized onions.
That smells sooo good.
I was thinking of serving this rice with the skillet chicken.
Dimitra does an Epic job in her directions.
I am new to cooking from scratch and always have perfect results following her directions
Thanks Dimitra !!!!!
PS: I wonder where Dimitra bought that wonderful cast iron pot ?
I like your cooking and I tried a lot of your ways to cooking and its delicious keep going bravo but please upload more foods that u cook without meat❤❤❤❤
I would love to see a Middle Eastern version of this dish! Doesn't pilaf, sometimes have noodles in it, too?
Look good but it seem difficult to cook, tks for share the recipe.
So I made this dish, and I didn’t enjoy the smell, it is just me i guess, but it had an awesome taste!
Easy, tasteful, simple dish!👍
