The New Year brings a new addition to the menu of one global fast food retailer with twice as much on offer for those seeking a meet-free alternative.
McDonald’s is launching a Double McPlant burger in all its restaurants in the UK and Ireland next month.
It is perfectly-timed for those who are planning to do Veganuary and go a month on a plant-based diet.
When does Double McPlant launch in the UK?
McDonald’s originally launched the McPlant burger in its restaurant in the UK in September 2001.
Now in the same vein as its Double Big Mac, Chicken Big Mac, Double Quarter Pounder, Double and Triple Cheeseburger, the high street chain will be offering the opportunity to double up on the vegan option from 4 January 2023.
The fast food retailer said it was “excited to reveal the launch of the long-awaited and much-requested Double McPlant, in all UK and Ireland restaurants from Wednesday 4 January 2023.”
It added: “Just in time for those taking part in Veganuary or those who just simply crave a tasty new burger from McDonalds.”
What do you get in a Double McPlant?
The new menu option includes two vegan burgers, developed by US based alternative meat brand Beyond Meat.
The original McPlant took three years to create with bespoke vegan cheese, made from pea protein created by McDonald’s’ dairy supplier Kerry Foods in Ireland, proving a challenge.
Those opting for the Double McPlant will get two Beyond Meat burgers, a vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, the ultimate vegan sandwich sauce, onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato and vegan cheese.
It is all vegan certified, cooked separately from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches using dedicated utensils and will cost £4.89, or £6.49 for a Double McPlant meal.
