Is this bald guy trying to tell us how to stop hair loss? Wtf
I lost a ton of my hair after going plant based. My dermatologist said it was telogen effluvium. Brought on by the plant based diet because it was a shock to my system. This is the same thing that can happen when you have something traumatic happen such as losing a spouse. The good news is that it grows back. But oh so slowly.
Hippo7 vegan supplement!!! Energy!!!! Hair and nails!!!!
It coincides for me!
Natto has k2 which might help. Also estrogens
that doesnt help..the fact that you say it will grow back..meanwhile nasty hair mess..was long down back..will never be back to long nice ..took years
I lose my hair 13 years ago due cancer and it never came back.
I’m pretty sure this is happening to me now that I’m mostly vegan
I am so happy to see this video!! You have no idea. I have been Whole Food Plant Based for 6 years and vegan for 11 years. This past year — I was thinking it was due to stress — my hair started falling out a lot and leaving some patches of exposed scalp on my head. I am resisting using Minoxidil or Keranique because it has bad side effects. I started using Rosemary oil and it helps a bit but I never thought about
increased fats. I have been pretty strict with fats — don't cook with oil or have dressings, etc. So now I'll go back to avocado and increase
my seeds like Flax. Actually I used to use Flax daily and switched to Chia since I am worried about my bones and was told there's more calcium in Chia. But that's sort of when my hair started falling out too. (Honestly – you can't win!)
Thanks for the tips. Its so difficult for women with hair loss. PS -I take Vitamin D3 daily and it doesn't prevent it.
I want to try out the plant based diet, but…I already have a thin hair…lol. 😅🤣
Vegan or not, the vast majority of people lose some hair, hair thickness and hair luster with age.
Thank you Dr. Klaper! I will try these
I've been vegan for 10 years now. I would say one of the most important aspects (for me) was to find a doctor that supports your vegan diet. For the first 5 years of my vegan journey, my family PCP tried to convince me to stop being vegan instead of checking my B12, Iron, and hormone levels. Now I have a doctor who understands this is important to me, and instead of blaming my diet we focus on nutrition education and making sure my blood work is where it should be for a young woman. If you have a lot of hair loss (and you have access to a doctor) I would recommend you get your B12, thyroid, and Iron/Ferritin levels checked. I also found adding healthy fats as Dr. Klaper states really helped. I add 2TBSP raw flax into my smoothie and it was a game-changer. Please ignore the "fat" fearmongers out there.
The issue maybe protein. We need 0,8 grams of protein per kilo of healthy body weight (or 0,8 x 55kg = 44 grams of protein per day) Sometimes, in a plant based diet we forget or don’t focus on that. In a meat diet this is automatic. In a WFPB diet you need to pay attention not to stay below this mark. After a year of research and hair loss, my hair loss completely stopped. And if I start a diet to lose weight I have to be extra careful with my amount of protein intake. Tofu and lentils to the rescue!!!
Can we get a video for guys on this same topic? Anyone reading this… please share your resources 🙂
i've heard there are cases in medical history where older men with late stage balding had hair regrowth and balding reversal due to other illnesses and the medications/treatments of them. i'd like to see a collection of these rare occasions where late stage norwood 7 balding reversed to a norwood 2 or 3. i spent years as a vegan and my hair had no issues at all. when i began eating meat and dairy and bread and sugar, within 18 months my hair started falling out. when i went back to beans and rice and corn and sweet potatoes and fruits and vegetables, my hairline filled back in and my hair got thicker. i think male pattern baldness is diet related because the men in my family are mostly bald on both sides except me and a couple other people. my hair started to thin around age 26 but now i am almost 40 and have not lost much in the last decade, which i attribute to my diet and jogging routine. i probably won't ever eat meat or dairy again, as long as i have my hair.
Thank you, I have seen an increase in hair loss for the last 3yrs that I have been on a vegan diet, but everytime I get my thyroid checked the numbers come in within range or slightly off but not enough for doctors to address meanwhile it is coming out so bad my hair thickness has reduced by half. So, again thank you for the information I will give this a try.
dump the starch and eat fruit n vegetables and keep you hair
I don't know instagram so ill try asking my question here. What nutritional foods will help my nails that have developed ridges and now they split, break, chip as the ridges get to the tip of my nails…which is ongping!
Ps .. doctor what is a safe vegan zinc for us men to take ..
Hey doctor .. i became vegan 31 days ago and yes my hair was falling out like bats flying out of cave . But what i noticed .. when i ate soya .. in moderate amounts it stopped . I was and still am a gym rat and i was encouraged to drink these protien whey crap drinks that did absolutely nothing for me .. waste of good money. But the link i am trying to make is .. if men eat soya and these estrogen foods moderately does it balance off out or hormones . And also doctor in other readings are we both vegan and non vegans lacking good sulphur in our diets which promote healthy skin hair nails ? I was told we have to make garlic onions and ginger staples in our diet now .. whats your take on this … thanks and regards ainsley ameerali.. trinidad
First you're told eliminate fats for optimum weight loss..hair loss ensues..then you're told add fats…😐
I've been vegan for 5 years, never lost any hair, until I started losing weight this year. Then my hair fell off and I'm left with half of what I used to have… I'm really sad about it. Seems like the only way to get it back is to start eating more fat but then I'll also gain weight.
So it seems that I'll have to choose between hair and body.
Either that, or I just lost weight too fast. I think I did, I ate 1500 calories per day roughly and my TDEE is probably 2100-2200 or so
There was no doubt my hair thinned out within a couple of months of eating plant based. Everything seems to have balanced out but it isn’t anywhere near as much hair as I had before. I am told I look like I have a “normal” amount of hair now so it doesn’t bother me.
Dr. Klaper, what about the goitergenic effects of undercooked green and cruciferous vegetables? Isn't one of the effects of goitergens hair loss due to thyroid imbalance? And can't those disruptive effects be
remedied by steaming those vegetables tender rather than drinking them raw in smoothies?
So what about menopausal hairless and being vegan. Can Dr Klapper add some comments and advice?
Menopausal vegan women deal with this too. …. A bit of iodized SALT? Dr K!!!
Great information, thanks a lot doctor!
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism back when I was a teen in the 90’s. I used to take meds for it, but quit them around the same time I became vegan 15 years ago (unlike my older non vegan sister btw..) I have never had a problem with my hair – in fact people would be jealous of how thick it is. And I’m not a “health nut”, more aware now, eating mostly WFPB. I’m 40+ now and I’ve lost a little hair in the temple area, that classic M shaped pattern. Sure, it bothers me, but I should be grateful, wether it’s “good genes” or what I’m not eating (or drinking!), who knows! But from my own experience and other vegans I know – it is not because you’re vegan. Might be a transitioning thing for some, and it will grow back, but don’t be worried, listen to Doc K! 😎
I stated taking vitamin D3 every day and my hair stopped falling out
sacrificing our hair for the cause, im going to choose to not believe it, still nothing on the vegans 50 years ago who sacrificed b12 deficiency for the animals without even knowing it, i think about it all the time, those people should be respected as much as war veterans imo
my experience is not enough protein and fatty acid
been vegan 8 years , i noticed whenever i went raw vegan in the summer my hair would shed like crazy
as soon as i added beans lentils tofu nuts seeds back …bam !!!!hair loss stops
A very useful format of delivering right culture of eating!!! Thank you, Dr Klaper!!!
nice video
