I have celiac disease and can’t eat at any restaurant. It’s just too dangerous, the threat of contamination, and I won’t take that chance. I don’t eat anything I don’t prepare from scratch myself at home. You’d be surprised how many celiacs don’t know gluten is in soy sauce and just about every processed food out there. Their doctors don’t warn them. And for most of us, the symptoms aren’t immediate stomach pain, it’s chronic neurological issues, making it hard to detect when you got contaminated. So have some patience with people. And those with sensitivity to gluten get symptoms from large servings like bread or pasta, but no symptoms from traces like soy, unlike celiacs. So to be frank, just do your job and stay out of peoples business. If they want a gluten free dish with soy sauce, then just give them what they asked for and don’t look so deep into it.

Gluten free people can vary from sensitivity to intolerance to celiac. Some people can take certain supplements and handle small amounts of gluten alright and some of us suffer for days on end with even a few bites of soy sauce. People that don't suffer from these issues need not speak on it. Period.

I can eat something cooked in soy sauce but I can’t eat a slice of bread. So, I largely need to avoid gluten but small amounts are fine which is why I’ll order something that doesn’t contain a large amount of gluten…. It’s not that hard to understand and it doesn’t make me a liar? Lol

Well, I have celiacs, Been eating on a gluten free diet for thirteen years now and the reason is the last time I had food with Wheat, I ate it, Eight hours later I’m on the toilet for an hour and a half feeling nauseous and pain, Went to the doctor the following week to get an endoscopy, Turns out I had celiacs. I don’t lie much other than if its lie down.

As someone will celiac I don’t appreciate restaurants when I tell them I have the disease. Still give me a meal with it in it. I don’t feel the effects until after I leave.

This video is dangerous bullshit!! Sorry because some people have a gluten sensitivity which may not present in the same way as an acute life threatening allergic response but they can become very sick and have severe GI symptoms from ingesting gluten. They may have an allergy or sensitivity to wheat and there are thousands of proteins in wheat so many people avoid wheat altogether because it's nearly impossible to isolate which are causing the issue. If someone asks for gluten free in a restaurant or say they have an allergy to gluten and you offer gluten/free or gluten friendly don't give them wheat or gluten!! It's that simple! Just do your job!! And put on some gloves on for crying out loud!! Chefs put their bare hands on food WAY too often!!!

As someone with IBS, gluten or bread will really aggravate my intestines. Often some items in moderation are OK but mostly avoided. I also must add that (this 100% does not apply to everyone) having food allergies or dietary restrictions for your health really sucks! It takes the joy out of eating out with friends, indulging isn’t encouraged and many people also have depression. Risks may be taken to enjoy a night, the next day may be filled with bloating and constipation or just flat out stomach pains non stop, again not everyone is okay with that.

I'm allergic to wheat and highly sensitive to gluten. I can't have the soy sause or anything. I won't die from cross contamination like someone with celiac, but if i eat gluten anyway, I could develop celiac later on. I feel like honesty is the best policy. Don't claim to be allergic if you're not. Just makes it seem like people who really need to be gluten free are liars, when a lot of us aren't🥴

I would eat tons of bread if it did give me stomach cramps. I ate a lot most of my life. I find sometimes I might get away with heartburn for one sandwich and that has fooled me into thinking maybe I no longer have an issue. Keep eating it and it’s brainfog , constipation, diarrhoea. Continue still further and it’s a permanently distended stomach, reflux so bad I have to sleep sat up ( as I had to for 2 months before I suspected wheat was the issue). The brain fog is an odd symptom, also shootong pains in the muscles and joints. Stop eating bread and it all went away.
So why would anyone lie? What would you do? Do you think every allergen has the same effect all the time? I get hayfever but I sometimes don’t get it as bad some years. You really haven’t thought about this have you?
Also to anyone who has no issues with wheat but skips it for “health” you may be a little obsessive. Why miss out on bread if you don’t have to?

I think your video is very ignorant. Some people don’t have celiac disease but still need to avoid gluten. My mother for example. She can’t eat gluten but sometimes chooses to have a little and knows the amount in soy sauce one night won’t harm her. Nobody feels like explaining all this to a waiter so they’re not lying. They’re just not telling you their full life story.

I have a severe gluten intolerance. I need to plan in advance because I'm pretty much always affected badly. Even some gluten free food can contain gluten if it's prepared the same place that food with gluten was prepared. You're not affected instantly. I usually get the symptoms an hour or more after I eat and it lasts for days. It's far simpler to say gluten allergy as you're taken more seriously than to explain everything

People have a disease called celiac which affects people differently. For example someone that has a severe case of celiac can react very terrible to any kind of gluten, but people that have celiac and don't react as much to gluten wont care as much if a little bitvof gluten is in there food. But ultimately Someone with celiac no matter what there reaction to it can lead to cancer if a proper diet is not followed.

Did you ever stop to think that some people who can’t eat gluten have not been educated about other things that may have gluten in them especially if they have been able to eat gluten most of their life until they were diagnosed with a medical condition!

Some people have lactose intolerance but carries medicine w/em like "lactaid" but still try to avoid over-indulging on dairy even tho it's soooo gooood! Same applies to gluten intolerance but they are on a diff case. Like my co-worker actually has celiac disease so no gluten even a speck of it. Some can do small amt like in my case I have a mild sensitivity if I eat too much gluten I would feel constipated for 2+ days. In conclusion, I would just try to understand & have compassion to anyone even if it is a personal choice ❤

Sometimes people don't know the best verbiage to state I'm gluten intolerant but not celiac or possess a gluten allergy. The issue is people see anyone who refuses gluten to be a person following a trend. I just don't care to say I have IBS whenever I ask if a dish has gluten in it but also know that I can handle cross-contamination so I mention it. At a certain point, it gets wordy and way too much overwhelming information to give a server or fast food employee

Actually if you look at a bottle of soy sauce, it actually says gluten-free right on the bottle. The fermentation process disables the gluten content. This is actually pretty ignorant.

Some people are actually allergic to gluten. As in it could kill them. And then some people are gluten intolerant but don't have full blown celiac disease. But gluten does cause some nasty side effects.

And get this. There's people who can end up in the hospital after eating gluten but can travel outside of the states and can eat the same foods that can kill them here without any trouble. And thats because those countries actually regulate the food industry. They have banned the dangerous chemicals that American food manufacturers are spraying on our crops.

The reason why gluten intolerance and allergies has exploded is because of the chemicals in our food. Countries that don't use the pesticides and the preservatives, their food is far safer. So don't blame the people that are effected. Blame the money hungry corrupt government and food manufacturers. Which if you dig any into who owns what. You'd probably be surprised to find that the big pharmaceutical companies own the food brands. They make us sick to sell us their treatments.

I am trying to avoid Gluten, Sugar and Dairy. Not because of allergies but because of intolerance. So a bit of soy sauce probably won’t affect me, but a loaf of bread, or a portion of pasta could create some issues. So go and fry that ya knob.

Actually, mr arrogant know it all, gluten free soy sauce is a bit of a sham. Most soy sauce does contain wheat yes, but in such minuscule amounts that you'd need to drink 6 liters of soy sauce to be over the daily treshhold of 20mg of gluten. So maybe you don't know everything and maybe you shouldn't spread harmful misinformation that makes it harder for people with illnesses to get taken seriously. Sincerely, a med student with an autoimmune disease that forbids me from eating gluten

dude. eating wheat has been the death of me, it lights my skin on fire. easier to say I am gluten free than saying I’m allergic to wheat. when I occasionally cheat and eat the food that has a bit of wheat / gluten, it’s cause it’s still delicious and then I just deal with some of the repercussions later 🙄

As someone who literally has a DISEASE called celiacs which means I literally CAN'T eat gluten and if I do I will literally do PERMANENT damage to my lower intestine maybe you should look into it a bit before behaving like this and even if the person doesn't like gluten just don't put it in if someone tells you not to put something in their food you don't put it in their food it doesn't matter if their lying or not because they could be telling the truth and you could be leading someone to death

Soy sauce has less than 5 parts per million of gluten – that’s less than the 20 ppm the FDA considers gluten free. So maybe keep your judgements to yourself unless you’re going to do at least one Google search.

-sincerely, a person with celiac who doesn’t want to have an entire conversation with you about gluten so please just bring my food as I ordered it
