I did the low fodmap diet and I did it fully. Thankfully I don't react to garlic, and I only react to onions in large quantities. However I now know I react to Polyols, Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), and to a lesser degree some fructans. I already knew I couldn't do dairy. BUT! When I eat GOS I found out I can take Beano also known as the enzyme alpha-galactosidase and I'm able to eat beans again! If you react to GOS you should try it and see if it helps you. I was so relieved.
Yes the toddlers leftovers is the biggest challenge with any diet lol
If your symptoms weren’t completely gone in phase 1 why wouldn’t you do phase 1 longer before moving on to phase 2? I’m trying to prepare for mine so wondering if your symptoms don’t need to be completely gone in phase 1 before moving on.
I have bouts of gastritis, IBS, and IBD due to my own stupidity of eating wheat. I want this to be my last bout that I have. I always return full circle. One day turns to once a week, then twice a week, then almost every day of eating wheat and then I'm in the middle of it. But this last time was bad. It reflects so bad into my back with excruciating pain. A couple of years back my GI told me to try the FODMAP diet for 6 months and see how it does. It worked…but when I start feeling better I start eating wheat again. It get stuck in that "live to eat" instead of "eat to live" mode. It causes gastrits, IBS, and IBD. It usually takes a few weeks and then it hits me. Slowly but surely. And it's all due to my own stupidity. This time I did a personal video journal so when I want to eat wheat I can go back and look at the videos to see how miserable I was. So this last time it hit me I started the FODMAP diet along with the FODMAP app on my phone and within a week started feeling better and started having normal bowel movements. I'm at the tail end of it and I'm not in the middle of minute to minute digestive pain or back pain. The mental pain and stress is just as bad as the physical pain. Eat well and be well.
One of the most helpful and insightful videos yet! I suffer from Hiatus hernia, ibs, occasional gastritis and most likely extra bacteria in the intestines. – I didn’t even know about FODMAP and what it is and how useful it is – it’s crazy to me that it can be something that is like common sense for the human body to decide but it takes a lottt of courage as you’ve mentioned it’s difficult to shift in diet in general.
Also watching this entire video really helped me feel much more optimistic about my own situations. Even as a 23 year old and being married, deciding how to tackle my own digestive problems now and in future, seems way easier now. I really appreciate this video and you!!! May God bless you.
Too much chit/chat!.
18:15 Regarding this 'abbreviated approach', I don't want to go against a professional dietician here but a note to anyone who is thinking to start this diet for IBS, please approach it with the utmost strict approach in the first stages. From extensive experience with this it will be of huge benefit to you not to rush it or half ass at all. Dairy, onions, cruciferous vegetables, garlic…I get it, it unbelievably sucks. But being really strict with it to start will give you a much clearer picture throughout the process. This video is a really great introduction from a professional, but someone making YT content. For yourself make sure to do it by the book for the start.
My bloating must not be that bad, because I’m not interested in eliminating more food from my diet
I cook low FODMAP menu every single day. Fortunately I have good recipes!
thanks, i tried low fodmap and now i LOVe it! helps you control your poops for lack of a better description. so much nicer to not ever smell like onion and garlic ever too. it cured ibs for me, was a mild case after pregnancy but wouldnt go away for a year except with low fodmap!
I have been using FODMAP diet guidance along with advice from my oncology nutritionist while I'm going through chemo. Chemo kills all the cells in the lining of my GI track, so I figured FODMAP might be a good guideline. It has really really helped! My nausea and other chemo symptoms are gone 85% of the time.
Thanks for that great vidéo! Question: this diet is not supposed to last too long (max 8 weeks as you said) otherwise it can cause issues. But with the réintroduction phase, where you need to stay low fodmap while testing 1 single thing at the time, with days in between each portion, it can easily take 3 months (or more of it already took 2 months for phase 1)… is that ok for the microbiome? Are the 8 weeks max only for the phase 1?
Those non organic foods really are hurting the microbiome also not eating according to your specific dosha in my opinion.
Dried chickpeas are a hell no from me – unbearable consequences! But canned chickpeas that have been properly rinsed and cooked well are delicious and much more acceptable to the tummy 😂
I feel the same way. It's so mentally exhausting
What is the best milk for your coffee Thank you so much for the GREAT INFO YOU PROVIDED!!!
All I got was a piece of paper of what to and what not to eat and sent on my way. I don't have the time or funds to experiment what to eat.
@abbeyskitchen what was your favorite almond milk?
I did 3 months super strict.. lost#30 just because i was sooo strict. I was not trying to loose. I did see a university of Michigan dietitian, the only one in Michigan who knew the fodmap diet. I used fody alot, very good products. Now to tackle sibo.
Trying FODMAP as a recovering anorexic is really hard and triggering 😮💨 Any advice is welcome ♥️
Good grief you gripe alot. I'm in so much pain I don't care what I have to eliminate.
Broccoli and cauliflower smell like farts before you even eat them. Therefore, I avoid.
This was so useful!!! ❤
FODY isn’t listed as a FODMAP friendly approved brand. They only claim to be a “B Corporation” which has nothing to do with being low FODMAP. That’s a little concerning..
How is it hard lmao
I learned a lot from your video, and nothing you said is anything I can't take on or accept, but I just want to gently suggest that the judgy tone is detrimental to your cause (helping others). Anyone who isn't "where you are" yet is not going to feel your delivery is approachable. Your tone only works for the converted. In which case, whats the point of your video? Having an audience of people who already went through the whole journey and are looking back from the other side laughing at people who drink coffee or eat sugar?
You can say the same information in a different way. You dont have to alter the truth but you can be more understanding (even if its a feeling you personally don't relate to, maybe your viewers or clients do?). Instead of dismissing her concerns as invalid and laughable , even if you dont relate you could try and understand where the concern comes from and… Actually address it? Even if you think it's stupid?
I saw in other comments you were frustrated at Abby potentially putting people off fodmap, but personally you rolling your eyes at a person just starting out on fodmap being sad about not being able to eat favourite veggies ever again, is pretty alienating. I am starting out on fodmap and am sad about not eating particular veggies again… Even though they might be causing my digestive issues. So based on what you said about Abby, i can only include you also think I'm stupid, laughable… why would i keep watching your content? Are you really trying to help all people or just people who are "where you are"? Let people get there! Have some patience for peoples idiocy, it goes a long way 😂
