Bengaluru: On a fast for 12 hours, animal rights activists walked from home to Brigade Road on Sunday, waving placards promoting veganism to mark Gandhi Jayanti.
They gathered to remember animals exploited for food, clothing, experimentation and entertainment, and delivered speeches, recited poems and sang songs on animal rights. “Imagine being born just to be tortured and killed for someone’s wants. That’s the story of the billions of land and marine animals… Had these victims been humans, we would’ve called this the worst ever barbarity,” said Arjun, a doctor and activist.
The programme, called Satyagraha, is part of a larger national event by Vegan India Movement, a pan-India collective of grassroots animal liberation activists. tnn
