The B.C.-born Baywatch star and honourary PETA director said she came up with the plan to distribute “methane offset starter kits” after seeing a recent report by the United Nations’ (U.N.) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warning that widespread reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions must take place in order to forestall a “code red for humanity.”
The kits, which include vegan foods like tofu, nondairy creamer and vegan dark chocolate and vegan jerky, will be sent to Lytton, Ashcroft, Kamloops, Lillooet and Vernon, as well as Vancouver and Vancouver Island, according to a PETA press release.
Several U.S. cities will also receive kits as part of the campaign by the animal rights organization, including the communities of Chico and Red Bluff, California, which are close to the largest fire in that state’s history.
