I'm always confused as to why whole food plant based isn't a big deal in endurance sports. Surely easing blood flow via lower atherosclerosis means better recovery and nutrient transport. At the elite level I guess it's performance enhancing drugs (they all cheat), but still – even a tiny competitive edge would be an edge.
i am not that great with statistics, so i have a question. it is not to the study itself, but to the tables at 5:56. how is it that the error in the height measurement is so huge (less significant figures than the number itself)? were they measuring the ladies with a ruler that only has 50cm marks on it? or did they have a lady who was 1.16m tall?
I'm curious on the study: how where carb/ fat/ protein amounts regulated? Through the reaserch that i'm doing generally vegan diets are high in carbs witch augments your muscle glycogen stores and in turn augments your time to exaustion.
I'm curious if the vegan over conventional diet is more of a fat<carbs thing.
Apreciate the info and great vid!
I’m a vegan and play men’s league soccer and I’m literally in better shape after going vegan, I wasn’t overweight, but my heart would struggle more and my body would tire faster (back when I used to eat animal products in 2016 and before)
Now I bike farther and quicker and feel way better, more energy, less heavy breathing
Obviously eat the appropriate foods for nourishment and calories which isn’t hard
I have been vegan for about 4 years, my left knee constantly gets injured, I’m weaker and tired a LOT more. I really stuck. I think I’m over dairy and eggs but I’m reconsidering the rest
I went vegan for close to a year and do athletic lifting also train basketball! Now about a month ago I added meat again this made my joints hurts . Back to vegan again recently and everything is clearing up! Hard lessons learn
Kindly make a video on Irish sea moss. Please.
Couple things.
Healthy user bias:
Despite both groups self reporting the same level of exercise smoking etc. We know vegans generally tend to make healthier choices than omnivores. Therefore confounding the study
Statistical power:
A study of 56 young women is not anywhere near sufficient to extrapolate to the larger population which you are trying to.
Length of time on a vegan diet:
The study had a minimum requirement of 2 years vegan. Therefore does not represent a population of people who have been vegan their entire lives, or even for any significant period of time. We know that many nutrients can take up to a decade to deplet from your stores and thus show signs of deficiency. Anecdotally many people feel much better in the first 2-4 years but after 5-10 years many people start to feel deficiency symptoms. So this study is on short term vegans.
Just some food for thought. Take care everyone.
How much muscle does one actually need? Is it ethically vegan to build excessive muscle?
Muscle building requires more calories, which requires more food. I would think that an ethical vegan would want to only consume enough calories as necessary for good health.
A lot of people nowadays are working to find out the best way to lose weight. Then again, being able to discover a diet plan that will work for you is tough to discover. A crucial thing you want to comprehend is that a diet is effective for one person might not work for another. So you have to know what your getting into before you begin one of these diets. This can provide you enough info to find out whether this is something which is suitable to your requirements. Read more here https://rb.gy/xxjiq2
Hey mic, Can you make some current videos of your 5k runs with times in a way that can't be refuted? Didn't you say you are very fast at 5k? That would help shut some people up for sure!
Isn't most meat eater muscle just water retention?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSRLSUyDlNk, a quick reminder to shut up your arrogance.
I tried vegan nearly 20 years ago. Within a few months, my gym strength went down, my skin got old and I felt poor. I had to supplement fats, and then protein. I eventually switched to vegetarian and added eggs to my diet. The whole thing lasted a year and then I went back to meat. All my gym strength then returned.
Either I was doing it wrong and vegan is very complicated, or vegan sucks for me.
I have been vegan for two weeks now. I have noticed a big difference in my running performance. Also, have quick recovery.
Carnivore wins hands down
Maybe youtube should rethink placing ads for meat at the beginning of Vegan videos, just a thought
The Vegan diet is detrimental to the ENTIRE body. If any of you are looking for a healthy lifestyle look into Aajonus Vonderplanitz and the Primal Diet.
My so happy to say that my testosterone has gone up, my blood pressure is perfect, I’ve lost 30lbs(and counting) and have kept ALL of my muscle! My anxiety is gone, I sleep better, my joint pain is gone, and have amazing energy levels all day! And it’s all thanks to a carnivore diet! I eat grass fed, grass finished beef, liver, and with sardines every other day, fish eggs, and soy free chicken eggs(and duck eggs) sorry vegans, meat heals. if you were to look outside your bubble, you could see that.
Vegans are hella lame
Ill trust this bullcrap when they take 30 omnivores vs 30 vegans and compare them head to head. Not 30 vegans that have eaten meat for 90% of their life. The gamechangers is a biased, funded piece of USSR propaganda bullshit that takes 3 athletes who have gone vegan in the last 2-3 years and shows how well they perform. People aren't this stupid you know? Stop insulting our intelligence.
Last year i won 2 national competition of powerlifting and I've been vegan 3 years ago so…
Plz sir make a video for vegetarian i m from india and many indians are vegetarian but no indian youtubers and fitness coachies guide properly
Well just look at the top athletes of any sport .are any of them vegan ?? No…hmmm what does that tell me??
I am a professional squash player and went Vegan a few months ago and have seen improvements in my recover, don't want to say that my overall strength and endurance have improved due to the vegan diet because that could be due to training. Sadly, I haven't been able to see how the vegan diet affects my performance during competition due to the CCP coronavirus.
Hey Mike, I went to PubMed to read the study (or at least the abstract of the study) and PubMed thought I might be interested in the NURMI study. This is a similar study out of Germany that looks at the health of a significant number of amateur long distance runners. Here are links to their study design paper and some of their results paper if you haven't seen these and are interested.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4831958/
This group of researchers are firm believers in the "minimum publishable unit" theory to maximize the number of journal articles coming out of a given research effort. So there are a number of "Step 2" papers and "Step 3" papers. Here is PubMeds papers using search term "NURMI Study (Step 2)". I couldn't find any citations for results from the "Step 3" phase of the study.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=%22NURMI+Study+%28Step+2%29%22
And of course they have a web page.
https://www.nurmi-study.com/en.
Looking at the study team it is made up mostly of vegan endurance athletes with PhDs, so results aren't likely to favor the beef and dairy industries. But of course they will be accused of skewing the number to make veganism look better. They have a publications page on their website with additional publications should you be interested in digging deeper.
It’s called whole food plant based!!! Chips and diet coke is also vegan. So is wholefood vegan pizza that has more calories. The trick is unrefined food
Vegans has more endurance than meat eaters
Cauntttt 😩
Hey Mike can you do a video on this one?
https://www.psypost.org/2020/05/meat-eaters-tend-to-have-better-psychological-health-than-vegetarians-56698
I've definitely noticed an emotional sensitivity to the suffering of beings considered dispensable by mainstream society in general since switching to veganism that I don't think can be attributed to isolation alone. The futility inherent in feeling like I don't know how to get people to care about the less fortunate has gotten me down many times since going vegan. I do think the vegan community would be well-served to recognize and address the possibility that going vegan for ethical reasons may legitimately cause more anxiety and depression symptoms.
I ran track throughout high school and once I went vegan I switched from sprints to distance running. I'm definitely not a naturally gifted runner but my athletic performance was noticeably better. I was the only female on the distance team and although I started at the back I was leading in no time.
Vegan for 1 year and I’ve never worked out better. My running has improved as well my endurance during strength exercises.
Sexist video.
Mic…what are your thoughts on all of the Pam Popper videos? I am shocked at her downplaying of all the COVID-19 deaths.
I went vegan cause I had no choice ✌🏼
Since I started going vegan I found I have some red rashes on my neck. I'm not completely blaming veganism but I'm just wondering if I may have like a magnesium or zinc deficiency or something? I'm definitely going to remain vegan for life
Please do a response video on SciShow's "we may have solved our cow burping problem.".
Durianrider has made a hilarious video about u! How to avoid looking anaemic lol
Me as a young female: this applies to me, looks like I have more stamina!
Also me with asthma and low activity: coughing and out of breath running to the bus stop.
I have a few questions I would love to ask, to get some help. I was confronted with a few of these arguments and now I am trying to see what you guys think or have to say.
Little background story. I live in the Italian alps and we don’t have factory farming, everyone has their own little family farms and those horrible things as we see in factor farming Footage basically doesn’t happen there. Calves most of the time stay with their mothers and animals are not really getting tortured. But obviously still abused for their milk eggs and flesh.
So what I often hear from my local farmers is:
1) You are flying all over the world and I (the farmer) am not. So we farmers kill less animals than you do by flying. (Birds etc)
2) Soy needs to be imported to italy and it produces a lot of crop deaths, and our cattle only eats grass.
3) Import cause more deaths than locally raised livestock.
I would really really appreciate your help guys!!❤️
Hey what did you think of Conspiracy?
