Life expectancy in the US in 1960 was 70 years. In 2020 it was 79 years. What causes that we live longer despite the fact that our environment is more poluted, food is of less quality and stress level increased ? I am a vegan myself but wonder what keeps people alive almost 10 more years ?

Diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolemia, my cholesterol remains stubbornly high despite exercise, weight control, and treatment with four classes of drugs including Rx fish oil. Wish I was tested at birth for this condition – I probably went 25 years with untreated high cholesterol.
I truly believe in the healing power of whole organic plant foods. I believe it is the diet God wanted for us before we were corrupted. However, we live in a world of meat addicts who believe in eating the dead, and some also believe that plants have 'anti-nutrients' and are scared of them. Some humans are willing to at least reduce the amount of flesh, blood, dairy and eggs they eat. They give me hope. I am grateful to be an ethical whole food vegan for over twenty years. My total cholesterol and LDL are always elevated for the past 5 years. This mid January, it gotten worse 274/188 respectively. I ran into Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn's video and also read his book Prevent and Reverse Heart disease. Followed his diet protocol(which is recommended for individuals w/ heart disease) even though I don't have a heart disease. I thought I'd give it a try and went on a WFPB diet. Also, my daily breakfast is cooked old-fashioned oatmeal w/ frozen blueberries and flaxseed powder. 3 – 4x a week on an elliptical machine for 15 – 20 mins.
My lab results was mind blowing after 2 months on a plant based diet and some cardio exercise. Total cholesterol 189 and LDL 113. I responded well with the diet. I don't need statin drug as initially was recommended by my primary doctor. Still to this day, 90% of a time I consume plant based food and 10% I cheat(when I eat out)😀😀
I take daily Vit B12, Vit D3, calcium along w/ my Vit C.
the downside of his diet is it tastes like crap…and its boring, and do you really want to eat grass for the next 50 years in order to live 5 years longer… you only live once..are you not allowed to question these people online….are our comments deleted as propaganda to paint a rosy picture? this is the problem with society today…. everyone wants their way …or the highway….when reality is progress was made by debating, by questioning, by judging.
surely we have evolved to eat meats fruit and little bit of grain and veg and roots….. 100 thousand years ago we know for a fact we used to hunt wooly mamoth and the like and fish….so we have evolved to eat that…cut all the other crap…but eat that which we were eveolved to eat…another thing ..we never ever 100k years ago had tons of wheat or carrots or potatoes…these came in patches…we got a few here and there….apples in season, honey when we found a honey plant.(hee hee) ….so not worth worrying about …..the real secret is exercise…we used to hunt and forrage…now we sit behind pcs doing yutube….the best diet is exercise…you can eat whatever you like and if you aerobic exercise like crazy …you will have beautiful arteries…

He is controversial. Lots of people do well on either diet, but what are the plants. Do they supplement iron? Do they eat the cheap processed vegetable oils? No animal fat?
I know this video is old but I’m going to try to ask a question and hopefully it gets answered. I am a raging diabetic and can only keep my numbers down when I eat very low carb diet. If I eat vegetables my blood sugar skyrocket. Simple question can a diabetic like me eat a diet like you are describing without wrecking his numbers. I’ve never had a food that I have not white so that’s not an issue with the vegan way of eating and I have watched your daughter and your wife on YouTube for hours and would love to be able to eat that way but I think I have wrecked my pancreas so bad That a carnivore diet seems to be the only thing that keeps my numbers down would love to hear your opinion thank you very much for your dedication over the years.

Love Dr. Esselstein. He is my guru. Whatever he says is sacred. I’ll listen & apply to every word he is saying. I’ll stop all fat from nuts. I’m vegan for the last 7 years but eat lots of nuts, processed food and avocado. I’ll stop all of it.
It’s not just giving up meat! It’s giving up dairy, oils and if you already have heart disease you also give up most nuts and avocados and sugars. I have learned to eat PLANT BASED FOOD…for prevention of a stroke…. And there is PLENTY TO EAT!!!! I LOVE the lifestyle change and am energized!!
Low carb high fat diet need not be overly dependent on eating meat. And haven't humans lived on meat for millions of years before agriculture came along?
I adore this knowledgeable, peaceful man. Was a "vegan" all of 2020 But getting nowhere other than feeling good about saving animals and the planet. Went WFPB in December of 2020 on my 68th BD. Eating like a beast, lost 35 lbs (so far), dropped total cholesterol 30 points (without going to the gym). I'm so energetic, and "fluid". My joints move painfree and freely.
