People like this present their experiences as if they are scientific findings, but they obviously dont understand the scientific method, or even basic logic. You cant argue that a vegan diet necessarily made you obese if you also were also obese under an animal diet, and only began to lose weight once you finally reached a point of calorie restriction. If this guest was denouncing a keto or carnivore diet, Rogan would have called him out on his poor reasoning. But Rogan has a bias against veganism.
I think if your doing veganism you predominantly doing it for health benefits although it's a bonus that it helps the environment. But we have to realize that a vegan diet is not ideal humans by nature we require vitamin B12 and we can only obtained it through animal sources. I think the optimum diet would be a primate diet it's a vegan diet with bugs added.
Idk how it was even possible to become obese being vegan? lol
So Rubin blamed the vegan diet for becoming obese, and getting tired after walking a block. The real issue was eating out all the time – and restaurant foods are notoriously rich and he was probably downing plenty of fats. And he admitted to a sedentary lifestyle, so of course he was unfit – and it was lack of exercise that made him tired from even a short walk. A better interviewer would have challenged him on these points.
Rubin seemed determined to find a scapegoat, instead of admitting to his poor choices in diet and ignoring his lack of exercise and the resulting lack of fitness. Demonising a vegan diet was his way of avoiding taking responsibility for his lifestyle choices. He comes across as ignorant, but even more so, as dishonest – and someone with a (potato) chip on his shoulder. But then, that also describes Joe Rogan, who has his ideological biases and many axes to grind.
Any fat vegan is eating a lot of refined and/or processed and/or junk foods, and is probably guzzling down plenty of oil. If the quality of the diet is poor, it doesn't matter whether they are vegan or omnivore: they WILL get fat and stay fat on a crappy diet.
I went on a plant based diet in February and have lost heaps of weight – because I tossed out most of the refined foods, processed foods, takeaways, pre-packaged meals, and started eating REAL food. That meant preparing my own food at home, avoiding fried foods and focusing on getting enough nutrients by avoiding the nutritionally depleted crap I had lived on for years.
I've lost 40 kg this, and the weight has come of effortlessly, without any of the constant hunger I used to get when I tried to simply cut down calories while still eating refined and processed foods. The difference is that I improved the quality of the diet immensely. So yes, a 100% vegan who eats a crappy diet will put on weight, while a vegan who eats a healthy diet loses weight. The only real cure is to ditch the non-foods and focus on eating REAL FOOD.
Yup, we need to look at the science and data instead of listening to celebrity testimonials.
You can still become obese on a vegan diet if you are eating too many carbs and not enough greens…and very little exercise.
serious question, were you effeminate before you were a vegan or did this come about with potentially more soy consumption?
He actually looks like he was in better shape then.
He is skinny fat now and his face holds water and fat like a massive steroid abuser or somethin
everyones body reacts to the same diet and lifestyle differently
I'm half a pound into the obese category. My gosh I never thought I'd be here again. Especially as a vegan. Job loss+pandemic+depression= 2.5 years of weight gain …. Then stability… Now I'm trying to lose it again. Wish me luck! I'm counting calories and going to the gym (sporadically but walking almost daily). I've lost almost 5lbs after 2.5 weeks… So it's working, but it's painfully slow. Lol. Ughhh. I'll get there.
When I went vegan, I got in the best shape ever in the gym. After 6-9 months, my bad cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure gel from dangerously high to just above normal. That weirdo didn’t get fat due to veganism. He’s just a disgusting glutton.
Mmmm, meat good.
The sad thing is that Joe Rogan literally doesn't push back at all or question. This guy is a real bot
It's a circular argument because no one diet type fits all some just cannot do vegetarian and eating meat is a better choice. We have the capacity to be so called vegan/vegetarian today yet historically it was a secondary option..
Glad you made a video about this Mic. It was really bothering me watching the Rick Ruben interview.
Veganism probably didn't make him obese. But it definitely gave me arthritis and an autoimmune disease. Had to quit after 15 years vegan. Really don't care if people say I was never vegan in the first place. Oxalates destroyed my gut biome, destroyed my thyroid, and I'm still going through the misery of having those oxalate crystals move out of my bones and soft tissue. Once I became aware of oxalates, I started lowering the amount of high oxalate foods I was consuming. After a year that didn't help, had to introduce animal products because I had nothing to eat. Once I became mostly painfree I went plant based again. Nope 9 months later became bed ridden again.
What makes everyone else obese? 😂😂😂
0:47 lol most Americans are not on "meat-based diets". Completely false. If anything, they are on plant-based diets (68% of calorie intake on average). This is an extremely basic fact. Are you trying to mislead your viewers or just very uninformed?
Low carb and keto is probably fine if you're super intense about it and don't partially fall off. I really hate that it is pushed widely as a diet though, as the things (regardless of vegan arguments) people eat are so unhealthy when you get out of a keto state. There are people crushing butter and pork rinds and such, which are probably getting used up on keto but then are going to clog the crap out of your arteries of you when you fall off the diet.
How can you lose weight eating animal steroids and growth hormones
It continues to blow me away almost daily how really intelligent and talented people such as Rick just don’t make the simple connections necessary to understand how their food choices affect their health. Just like in religion, people will just use whatever logic they can find to justify their beliefs.
I gained around 20 pounds on a 2 year vegan diet (with orange juice) after stopping smoking and got a few health issues which docs could not fix. I started carnivore and over 4 years with zero exercise I am now only 4 pounds overweight 🙂 So I can agree with the fellow, I was also eating unhealthy vegan stuff like pasta salads, fries, rice, pizza and vegan burritos but carnivore is so easy cause you lose the craving for all the crap.
U don’t even look healthy, sound healthy nor act healthy 🤦♀️💯
Beer, French fries and Oreos are vegan
Vegan is an awesome way to destroy your health…just a matter of time… sad that so many young people get sucked into this cult.
Obesity is a symptom.
A lot of folks who claims to be vegan look just as bad as someone who isn’t vegan. All of this processed high sodium foods are not good for no one. Also some vegans that has their nose in the air eat every carb known to man and their still fat. Diabetes doesn’t care if you’re vegan or not.
