Vegan for two years, didn´t test testosterone but I feel like my levels increased… more beard, more livido, I build more muscle, better recovery, way more energy…
One thing I will say is that 1. we are predators 2. everyone I know that's been on a vegan diet for 10 years or more has life changing health problems that developed after they went vegan 3. vegan failure to thrive is a thing. Some people just don't do well on it 4. it is so easy to become deficient to the point of damaging your health that it's just not something I think anyone should chose, let alone be forced into it as some very powerful people are calling for at the moment.
Ex vegan here, my t level on vegan diet was in the high end, I'm curious what it's gonna be now. If anyone wondering why I've quit, i was not gaining weight and muscle by not balancing my diet and being lazy i guess Why the clickbait title though?
I appreciate this honest and respectful response. I’ve also been vegan for 10 years and the amount of misinformation being spread is painful to see/hear. When balanced well, whole food plant based is excellent! All diets should be balanced. I’m so glad to see you embrace the science when discussing soy and flax (phytoestrogen sources). Thanks for educating your followers.
There is no more risk of being deficient in any nutrients on a vegan diet than any other diet. The level of knowledge in the bodybuilding space is where there is deficiency. I think too many bodybuilders are scared to try it because they are afraid to sacrifice their gains. All of the essential nutrients you get from meat come from ultimately from plants who leech them from soil or synthesize them in their cells. Gorillas are stacked and they don't eat any meat except from the occasional bug on a leaf that they ate. Gorillas are also one of our closest primate relatives so bioavailability of nutrients from plants is not an issue. I wish a vegan bodybuilder cycling gear would come through to show yall that it's definitely the most optimal diet for growth, performance, and recovery. The reason why is because animal protein, any animal protein from any source, at a base level breaks down into toxic byproducts in the human gut like heterocyclic amines which hinder your overall health and ability to perform in all aspects of life. The overwhelming evidence from non-biased research shows that the more plants you eat and less meat you eat the healthier you are with vegans taking 1st place. I dare you meat heads to plan an appropriate vegan diet and maintain all of your other bodybuilding habits (gear included) and I bet you place higher in your future contests and have an easier time recovering so you can train more. Or you can sit here and debate me and miss out on that extra edge over your competition.
Only requires a bit more thought for a few months but then the way you plan your meals is just like before transitioning. Going on 6 years and strongest I’ve ever been. I don’t really plan Around Calories intake just protein.
Would be interested in hearing what a good vegan meal day would be from you for some that’s 190ish tryna to put on weight. Even tho you’re not vegan it’s nice to hear you not try to shit on the diet/lifestyle like others do lol
Derek, on phytoestrogens, isn't it possible for them to have an undesired effect also simply by virtue of activating E receptors (beyond the degree to which they'd be activated by endogenous E), without affecting T levels?
Just did my bloods after 9 months vegan, but I don't have a baseline unfortunately. Free test 10.1ngdl total test 598ngdl estradiol 15pg/ml. High protein is my main goal. My free test is on the lower end, and represents approximately 1.7% of my total testosterone
is it possible that soy consumption could be detrimental to testosterone when the individual is NOT physically active, BUT helpful when said individual is actually active/lifting ?
I’m a vegan and my T levels are 812ng/L Took the blood test after only 5 hours of sleep so would probably be a little higher if I would’ve gotten 8 hrs
You guys realize the only reason the meat has stuff like b vitamins is because they give the farm animals supplements right? Like a vegan is just taking the vitamin themselves instead of having the vitamin fed to an animal then eating the animal. So yeah I guess it's a little more complex but really if taking a supplement is too hard for you then you probably aren't going to be making any gains anyways because you lack discipline.
Veganism is good for the environment and your cardiovascular system. I wouldn't be doing it if I were trying to put on lots of muscle, but it is certainly possible.
Yeah but how much higher would his T be if he hadn"t been vegan and eaten a lot of soy? I'm a woman and I avoid soy and especially soy oil bc it is a potent estrogenic compound. The effect of estrogen on men and women is vastly different.
According to most dieticians leucine can be consumed through out the day with the same effect. So just because you're not consuming all your amino acids at once doesn't mean the protein is less bioavailable. Plenty of greens, legumes and nuts/seeds are high in leucine.
Unless he does the same test while not on a vegan diet. None of this means anything. For all we know he could eat McDonald's everyday and have the same testosterone levels. It doesn't mean McDonald's is good for testosterone levels.
Derek and crystal from simnett are great. Non judgy/preachy vegans that promote plants way more than vilify meat eaters. They promote active lifestyles, positivity, and healthy lives all while also being vegan. Big fan, cool to see them on here.
Great video! I have a plant based diet as well, not because I wanted to be vegan, I don't like vegan the comunity, but I like plant foods. I've gotta say that it is challenging if you don't have much knowledge about this type of food, and also cooking skills, i don't want people to go vegan, I want them to be healthy and happy, to feel good, whatever their diet is, it also depends of the goal, if your goal is to be like a truck, full of muscles, go for it, if you're goal is to be a freak in the nature drinking kale juice only, go for it
The only constructive feedback about your video: when you say a vegan diet requires more effort/prep in order to understand where to get your vitamins, macro/micro etc… that's true about any diet, it's not specific to a plant based diet. There are millions of people in western countries with deficiencies and 99% of them aren't Vegan. When you set yourself fitness goals you HAVE to understand how nutrition works regardless of your diet, and your comment makes it look like that's only specific to veganism. You can't just shove mcmuffins and beef jerky down your throat and expect great results. Otherwise, great content as always! 🙂
I would love it if the video was a giant swerve. And the guy looks at the paper and says, "I have the test levels of an 87 year old Dutch woman," cue said look on his face
So glad to see a gorilla like Derek not use typical talking points to bash veganism and actually interact with the community like an adult. Btw not vegan but been watching vegan Derek's videos for years, he's a great resource for those who want to incorporate more of a plant-based diet, not even necessarily vegan. He covers all the macros and micros, bioavailability, etc
The fact that vegans need to take supplements says enough. We're fkin omnivores. Like pigs and bears. We need meat along with fruits and veggies. You're not a goat, you aint gonn be ok only on greens. Dementia, accelerated aging, teeth falling are some of the few bad shit that will happen of you eat grass like a goat for many years.
A vegan diet is not hard and has many benefits. The secret sauce is eating a wide variety of whole plant foods including whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, fruits and vegetables, and mushrooms and most importantly PLENTY of CALORIES! It's very easy to get enough protein and that protein does not come packaged with saturated and trans fats. I have been vegan for 13 years and I'm much healthier than I was as an omni. Everyone should take b12 regardless of diet.
Shoutout to both Derricks for being cool 😎 no one trying to own anyone or anything, just two dudes talking about facts.
I am going on 5 years vegan, and I noticed a great deal of changes, but not with muscle. I still bounce around 210 lbs body weight and I still have a muscular build. Just have to personally work on the dedication to the gym lol.
Why would you though?
1:10 He lying , he scratched his face
He looks good for 37
Vegan for two years, didn´t test testosterone but I feel like my levels increased… more beard, more livido, I build more muscle, better recovery, way more energy…
bro his voice is all you need to know lol

Sorry but his voice sounds like a woman's voice, that is more than enough for me to avoid being vegan.
Simnett nutrition is a fun loving n very positive guy… Love his content

phytoestrogen does not work the same as estrogen at all… can't even believe people are still thinking this -_-

"I only eat plants, so I must actively hate anyone who eats meat." -idiots

Remember the good old days when people hated you for who you are rather than who you're not? At least proper bigots can see you.
I’m a vegan and my T levels are 812ng/L Took the blood test after only 5 hours of sleep so would probably be a little higher if I would’ve gotten 8 hrs
anything will work, tiger and horses also grow good muscle and able to fight well and run very far.

He even has a soy bean voice, the lack of manliness in this man is clear

why these vegan guys voice is so soft and not man like?
Honey is carnivore.

I'll never trust a guy with a voice like that, and effeminate mannerisms like that, to give me advice on hormones, diet and masculinity.
Nice Durian Rider mention !!!

Holy shit this dude looks mid 20s
Aren’t Gorilla’s vegan though.
