That instant ramen packets are vegan? In Korea, the same brand's ramen has beef powder and I can't eat it because of it. I will never understand why Korean companies feel like they need to put meat powder in literally EVERYTHING! π
Guys do you really think you have the time to make a noodle? Like come on! I just want to eat not to work!
β€ Nothing like food and scents that take you back to those precious people, places and time. Thank you for sharing.
Gonna be 43 on Friday. π¬
The fact that the people who criticized her are non-asian πππ€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
Ma'am, you have no right to make me cry with your narration of missing your parents and grandparents. I'm a diaspora student, too and can relate to your experience, now I'm working on my dissertation proposal while listening to your nostalgic story and I might or might not have shed tears…
I personally love ur stories while u r engrossed in cooking a delicious meal
silkem tofu is signature!!
This was pure poetry. Thank you for this.
Iβm going to my first Korean grocery store this weekend. I notice a lot of people use the packages as a base. It is impossible to please everyone.
I love your story of your father and how the seasoning packet reminds you of him. It's kinda funny but more often than not when people make their own seasoning combinations it ends up being exactly what is in the commercial packets minus one ingredient often used for preservative.. citric acid. So they end up not only wasting time but not getting a bit of vitamin C. Ack.. Millennials π€¦π»ββοΈπ
I'm curious if you have Indian food around you? As an Indian, I'm thankful that Indian food is almost everywhere this days and is pretty vegan friendly. However, living in Japan, I find it extremely hard to find decent vegan/vegetarian food. While I don't want to criticize the country I live in, it's frustrating that Asia (China, Japan and Korea) do not have enough vegan places to go out and eat. Whereas, I didn't find it that hard in America. Just a different perspective on culture.
Love your stories. π₯°
I love how passionate and eloquent you are. That food looks absolutely delicious. I am not Asian, but my goodness I wish I could make that!
I have no ramen in my house. And as a nurse I canβt be a hypocrite so I cut back on rice and noodles. But sometimes I go to my sisters house and steal ramen! <3
What kind of pot is this? I really need a stainless steel pot recommendation!
So, I checked your book out at my local library. Everything was too expensive in our inflation. Long lists of food. It'sa beautiful book. When I can afford it, you better believe I'm cooking those recipes.
I would tell them to kiss my grits
I LOVE your shorts so so much, but wow the long form is so nice. It's like your opening a curtain into ur more personal life and we all get to visit you and sit at your table. I love this. Thank you for sharing!π€π
I love you..
I'm not even Asian but heck girl, I feel you! Instant ramen or "real" ramen (like some people call it) gives me a super warm feeling, comfort and happiness. I started to eat them regulary like 7 years ago when I first met my boyfriend and since then.. it reminds me of him, of happy times and a warm comfort place. β₯ Screw all the people who blame other ones for not eating from scratch. Enjoy your meal, have fun! β₯
Iβm a bit confused about ramen, I just thought the two minute ramen was a western imitation and didnβt know itβs normal to eat it in Asia as well. But does ramen made from scratch exist as well? What do they use in restaurants? A family of four wanting to eat ramen needs to just buy a bunch of the packets or are there other in bulk options? What would homemade ramen broth be like? Why does it come in single serve packages?
I've been watching your shorts but this gem of an old video makes me the most emotional. How eloquently you explain our relationship with "cheap" food that others are quick to dismiss. Thank you for everything you do.
I'm Korean without any Korean family in the US. My mother used to make Shin ramen all the time, so it reminds me of her.
I eat vegetarian about 99% of the time (I'm also lactose intolerant) and do my best to avoid processed foods. So this story really resonates, and is a reminder to judge less because that we are all doing our best.
I just discovered u, so I look forward to purchasing ur cookbook! 𧑠ππ½
You hit the nail right on the head! Thereβs no other food that gives me comfort like instant Ramen. For me, it was Sapporo Ichiban!
I honestly don't think ramen is such a bad food choice when it comes to "healthy food". Everything out of balance is not good in any other way. If you eat ramen for breakfast, lunch and dinner for months then obviously it'll become problem. It's like if you like coke you won't replace it instead of water, isn't it? I'm not korean but I love ramen and I love to watch food blogger make ramen and adding all kinds of vegetable and stuff. It is reaaaaally taste good though. It reminds me of my home and my father as well, we used to share it when I was little.
I tried the Nongshim Veggie Soon noodles after I saw it in one of your videos and OMG it was sooo good. I only add sriracha to it. Thanks for introducing another ramen to my life!!
I looooove Ramen! My friend would always tease me because when we go to asian store or any grocery store, I would hoard different types of Ramen.
The most articulit word ever spoken .
Listening to you speak about your family and the comfort of our traditional dishes ( I'm Taino American) makes me feel safe and fortified. The noodles are da bomb.
I LOVE the way you can't even be bothered to get a plate out to try the noodles! A pan lid will do just fine. So…….it's not just me, then. Phew!
It's not ramen without that silver packet!
Omg im making
Who eats meatloaf lol but anyway who doesn't love ramen
Iβm Pakistani β¦. Technically Asian but usually we arenβt thought of as Asians β¦ I can relate to everything you said β¦. The part about using instant ramen – I mean I love that itβs relatable that I donβt have to whip up a whole broth for a comfort food β¦ the part about being a kid in an adult body and missing the security of your childhoodβ¦ the part of feeling like an outsider sometimes in the western world β¦. Virtual hugs β¦. We are all so different but same in so many ways
sooooo good
What is that egg replacer made of
This fell on my feed, beautifully – thank you. Not only did you make my mouth water, but your beautiful story brought me to places and memories of my grand parents and parents and our love of comfort with food, and our Italian dishes:) Also those packets live in my pantry and save me on nights when I just crave that flavor I want with noodles/ramen/soups. Thank you so much
I used this recipe and I loved it!
Wow, βthe importance of eating foods that feed your soul…β thatβs important to remember. Ty
thank you so much for this recipe and also this story. as an immigrant living in the west, this definitely resonates with me β₯
Can't believe I'm teary eyed from watching a cooking video…craving ramen now
Not Asian, however, I grew up loving noodles and Asian cuisine. And having instant cup noodles (as bad as they taste to me now) still reminds me of the times where I would sit at my laptop and watch videos at age 11. I wasn't in a stable home at that time, but it was a good time despite the hardships I went through. Instant ramen has been a comfort food, despite me not using the packet due to the insane salt content. I don't judge people based on how they make it because I know people have their own ways of making it. Instant ramen will always have a place in my heart as a warm comfort food that always stuck with me no matter what.
Ramen! I really want to try to make this! Quality video! Informative! I can see your talented and passionate and as a fellow video creator & cook I would love to learn more from each other new friend!
I love how you eat straight from the pan,so interstate to watch and bless your heart for your heartwarming storiesβΊοΈβ€οΈ
I really appreciate that you show using the packaged noodles, I love them and I usually buy the samyang noodles from Amazon. I hope you use them with some of your recipes. Your food looks delicious thanks for stepping out and making your cookbook. Itβs helping me survive this year.
Thank you for sharing, I feel thisβ€
Very eloquent π
