you can have berries on a keto diet. it's pretty much the only keto approved fruit.
Berries are allowed on a keto diet today is Day 7 on a vegan keto diet and I’ve had berries everyday!

Sounds like too much work…I’m doing FMD with greens and avocados twice daily for 3 to 5 days once per month…many good results…then return to a HCLF…love my starches!

thank for sharing. love being on high fat but don't really care about being in ketosis as long as a feel good. I have been able to balance my hormones, loss weight, and the mental clarity I get is better than caffeine
A question: do I count net carbs or total carbs?
I have been doing keto for 3weeks and intermittent fasting 16 hours a day. I have been checking with strips and I'm making keytons. I'm purple by day 3. I have not lost a lb. I'm actually up 2lbs. Help. When will I start to lose weight. I'm keeping my carbs at 20 carbs.

Merrideth, why couldn’t you have eaten those berries? They’re pretty low in net carbs and adding some nut butter with them could lower the glycemic index of the meal further so you would very likely stay in keto. No?

I agree with so much of what you said.  I’m not vegan, but I am ketogenic and I have gone through some of the same struggles with cutting out foods that are good in order to stay in ketosis.  I finally realized that ketosis is a tool and not a goal and since then I am doing much better with keto.  I eat some kind of fruit EVERY DAY – I just do it mindfully and I don’t overeat them.  Fruits like berries, lemons, limes, avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc are all perfectly compliant to a keto diet, and in my opinion they are necessary for long term health.  I have not dropped out of ketosis because of my fruit consumption, but I try to be careful about the type of fruit I eat and how much of it I eat. Â
I would estimate that (while 75% of my food CALORIES come from fat), 75% of my food VOLUME comes from vegetables and a limited amount of fruit. Â This has not caused me to drop out of ketosis and has helped me avoid some of the nutritional deficiencies that people can get when shying away from plants that are chock-full of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Â
It is interesting that you brought up the subject of eating disorders, because I have noticed that some versions of KETO actually attract people who have unhealthy relationships with food. Â For me, the KETO way of eating is amazing and I intend to do this for the rest of my life. Â But so many people who do this end up failing because they try to be so strict that it is not sustainable in the long term. Â It is disturbing to see folks who are not eating any plant based foods because the fear the carbs.
One last thing – I don’t agree that it is necessary to be detail oriented to do this diet.  It can get that way for some folks, but in reality, most people who do KETO can be very successful if they just get a moderate amount of protein with each meal along with 2 -4  cups of vegetables (cooked and/or raw) and 1 – 2 TBSPS fat.  You might have to invest a little more effort if you are a vegan, but the basic premise is pretty simple.  The only people who need to be careful about getting their macros EXACTLY right are those who are treating epilepsy.

I was in the same situation, I mean, I love fruits, I am vegetarian for a long, long time… so i decided to try this fantastic "keto vegetarian diet"… I dropped all kind of fruits and focus in essencial fatty acids, supplements, bullet proof coffee, nuts and seeds, clorella, spirulina, clorophil, all kind of good oils… I made my own version of "vegie keto" in fact… I felt amazing, but I miss fruits… but is ok because it was winter… Now , in the summer, I returned to eat a lot of fruits. It is impossible don't consume fruits on summer time.
Yes, thank you ! Fruit is my major con when on keto diet . Im vegan too, for almost 4 years and i just cant be without fruit! I can go without sweets or added sugar but I need to have my fruit to keep my sanity cause im a major sweet tooth .So I would eat a pear, or apple, or even grapes, for breakfast and then rest of my meals would be keto meals . So one fruit meal and 2 keto meals in a day and I was still losing weight ! I was amazed that i was able to lose like 2 cm from my belly per week , cause thats the area I store fat the most and ONLY keto diet took my extra tummy fat away ! And another interesting thing that i noticed is the cellulite on my butt , legs, and tummy is smoothing and miraculously going away ! On some areas I dont even have it anymore and thats only after 2 weeks ! Im amazed ! Im really happy with results . Great video , by the way 😀

Hey awesome video! I'm on a healthy lifestyle and weight loss journey, I've been fully vegan for a little over a week but weight loss has plateaued. I'm seriously considering going keto-vegan to lose the last bit of weight but I'm concerned that I might gain it all back once I start eating grains, fruits, and starchy vegetables again. Is the weight loss from ketosis easily sustainable once the diet is over?
Super interesting as I've lost 85 lbs on Keto and have also looked to going vegan Keto because I don't really like meat and eat very little. There was a podcast with a scientist and basically a test subject and they discouraged it for the most part as you have to be crazy aware of every detail as you know. Fruit, I miss BIG time … so yes very interesting. I've tested now for 3 years and one thing for sure in my case was I gain the weight back like overnight! Great video! 💞
Some fruit are low in carbs. Could I add berries they are very low.
Congrats on losing 12 lbs! I think the 4 lbs you gained back would of just been your glycogen stores restocking your liver and muscles.
good points. I have seen keto folks incorporating berries and even pumpkin and sweet potatoes occasionally and do well. i.e. in salads or almond milk smoothies etc

fruit has been the hardest for me too. not only because I miss the taste of it, but also for the same reason you're stating – I'm like, why am I thinking of fruit as BAD?! this isn't right!!! thank you for gettimg into that point because I feel so alone as a vegetarian in the keto community
I agree about needing to be a seasoned vegan first before going high fat/low carb. But for me that was mostly because of knowing how to prepare foods and make things that still taste great without the carbs. I really only have eliminated all grain and white potatoes, and still eat one serving of beans and sometimes sweet potatoes, and am 70% raw, adding whole plant fats and some olive and coconut oil. I've had a lot of healing from this in a short time and in only 3 weeks have gone from a size 10 to a 6, and just feel great.
