My mom used to use freshly grated nutmeg in her mashed potatoes and any cream soup she made. To this day freshly ground nutmeg is a MUST. It adds a wonderful flavor.

Fresh lemon juice in mashed potatoes adds a delicious flavor. It’s also makes the flavor of a baked potato so yummy that it doesn’t really need butter, cheese or sour cream, just salsa.
I'm vegan from New Zealand and i find adding the dairy substitute is easy. I use Nuttelex buttery spread and soy milk, super buttery and soo good! I must say I haven't tried roasted garlic in a mash but I will.

I'd been thinking about using miso as the primary flavoring (aside from garlic, of course!), and yours was the first and then only recipe I consulted — not knowing that miso was your secret ingredient. It was so good! In the interest of eating whole foods including no oil, I made my "gravy" with just miso and warm soy milk. I agree with you about mashing vs. pureeing in a blender; it was less fluffy than yours. Next time…!
